Fear, Love, and the Other

To live in a mind without fear,

I ask myself:

what does it mean to be afraid?

The Other is the one I need

to love --

and also the one

I invent to slay.

To slay the shadow

cast by the denied self

is not a futile labour.

To love the whole,

in the play of the light and dark

is no easy burden

for the human heart.
